Who is interested in Work with Meaning?

My most fulfilling and rewarding partnerships are with humans who have embraced:

·         personal responsibility

·         positivity

·         abundance

·         some level of self-awareness

·         growth and

·         proactivity.

You might see these qualities in yourself or others who might be considered successful.

You know.. they have a partner, kids, a house a great job.  They have probably just been overseas or have their next escape booked.  They’re ‘winning’ in life.

What you don’t see is that my typical client is a bit indifferent about it all.  Some are even down-right unhappy.  Others see a significant opportunity ahead as they pay off their mortgage and or their kids have become independent and they want to make this next opportunity count.

These individuals are often reflecting on what they want in their life and the impact they want to have on others.  Often those others are family, sometimes it is the team they care for and lead at work.

These individuals have been in this game of life for a little while and have experienced their share of bumps along the way.  You know:

·         Didn’t quite get the marks to get into their ideal Uni course

·         Got into their dream course or job and found out they didn’t like it

·         Worked so hard they didn’t meet their someone special

·         Or they did and the relationship didn’t last

·         A health scare, especially unusual for someone so young

·         They were deceived or abandoned by a boss they trusted

These and other disappointments and accompanying discomforts have been seen as learning opportunities and rationalized as a useful life lesson. Yet here they are underwhelmed by important elements of their life and work.

I think of this as ‘skin in the game’ of life.  Not so much that they are overwhelmed, paralyzed and wanting to be rescued.  More.. OK when I let go of the steering wheel of life the ride can get bumpy and uncomfortable for a while.

These individuals have typically been at their work for ten plus years in the same or similar field.  They might have been exposed to different bosses, some that gelled and others not so much.  They have been a part of different teams, some that hummed and others that were just plain awful.  Some have had the dream run and it has all been wonderful.  They just leaned their ladder against the wrong building and no longer like the view at the top.  Their breadth of experience reinforces how good life and work can be with ingredients that matter to them.

This journey of creating one’s ideal life and work is an enduring project for my clients.  Small tweeks have been made and even one or two massive risks have been taken.  My clients feel like they have tried everything and want more.  Some new ideas, language and skills are required and they are not quite sure where to start.  Then they remember there are people out there that can support them, or someone they know worked with a coach and they are curious to find out more.

If you can see a little of yourself in the above, or people in the team you lead and care for, reach out and let’s chat about what Work with Meaning could be for you and or your team.
